2026 OCMEA Music Educator of the Year - Laura Giorgio

Picture
The OCMEA Music Educator of the Year Award honors an oustanding music teacher who exemplifies excellence, dedication, and leadership in the field of music education. The 2026 recipient is Laura Giorgio!

Laura Giorgio has taught band at Washingtonville Middle School for over twenty years and has been the OCMEA Treasurer for most of that time.
The following remarks are from Mrs. Giorgio's nomination:
"After 24 years in education, I have a deep appreciation for teachers who can truly 'do it all,' and Laura [Giorgio] is the gold standard.

For years, I have sent my former students to her, knowing they would receive a top-tier education in a fun, nurturing environment. This year, I am seeing her impact through a new lens: as a parent. My daughter is currently benefiting from Laura’s tireless encouragement and wisdom. Whether it’s staying late for extra help or teaching 'life lessons' through music, Laura’s impact on our family has been profound.

Furthermore, her service to OCMEA is extraordinary. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate auditions and scholarships, ensuring everything runs smoothly for the entire county. She is a relentless advocate for our students and a selfless volunteer. We are so lucky to have her, and it is time she is recognized for the incredible amount of heart she pours into our community."
