Junior High Jazz Band Scale Requirements
Seven (7) scales prepared and three (3) will be asked at the audition, one (1) from each category:

C Instruments
BLUES: B Flat, F, E Flat DORIAN: B Flat, F MIXOLYDIAN: B Flat, F |
Bb Instruments
BLUES: C, G, F DORIAN: C, G MIXOLYDIAN: C, G |
Eb Instruments
BLUES: G, C, D DORIAN: G, D MIXOLYDIAN: G, D |

Scales must be played in a Swing Eighth Note Style at quarter note = 120. There will be Sight-Reading at the audition.

Improvisation is optional and only will be used in determining solo chairs. Any student wishing to improvise MUST bring their own playback device! The student will be expected to improvise one (1) to two (2) choruses from the Volume II Jamie Aebersold, “Nuthin’ But The Blues” recording.
Please note: A drum set will be furnished at the audition site (drummers can bring their own kits, if they so desire), and Bass & Guitar slingers MUST bring their own amplification.
