High School – 2023-2024 – Use A List
Additional Drum Set Requirements: Proficiency of Styles and Improvisation: Definition of styles can be found in current NYSSMA Manuel pg. 9-13.
Improvisation will be demonstrated by playing nine (9) measures: Play four (4) measures of time followed by four (4) measures of improvisation, ending on beat one of the ninth measure. *All piano, guitar and vibes players must also comp one chorus of the solo Scale requirements: PDF can be found on the OCMEA Website There will be SIGHT-READING . Improvisation is optional and only will be used in determining solo chairs. Any student wishing to improvise MUST bring their own CD “boom box”! The student will be expected to improvise one (1) to two (2) choruses from the Volume II Jamie Albersold, “Nuthin’ But The Blues” recording.
