September 4, 2007 Dear Zone 9 Music Teachers, Summer always seems to fly by in a flash and this year is no different. I trust you all had a restful summer and are ready to begin a new school year. The outstanding results from last year’s Solo Festivals are apparent with the selection of many Zone 9 students for this year’s NYSSMA Conference All-State to be held in Rochester November 29-December 2, 2007. Congratulations to you and your students for the obvious dedication and hard work. I would also like to congratulate Christine Gero and her Nyack High School Chamber Orchestra as well as Robert Schaut and his Kingston High School Jazz Ensemble. They were two of eight groups selected statewide to perform at The NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester. All of these results are proof positive that music education is thriving in Zone 9! There are many important dates that I want to share with you. I am hoping to have a third All-State site for this spring’s solo festival season. To more evenly disperse festival loads and lighten the burden to festival chair people, To that end it is my hope that Rockland County can host an all State Festival May 16 & 17, 2008. If you are willing to do this (PLEASE!) contact me ASAP. Also remember that all All-State applications must be done on line via the NYSSMA web Site beginning this spring. No paper All-State applications will be mailed out for spring festivals.
We will have our usual Zone 9 meeting on Saturday, November 17, 9:00 AM at the area All-State Festival. I do hope to see as many of you as possible. I wish you all a smooth, healthy and rewarding Year. Sincerely, Bonnie Glazier Zone 9 Representative NYSSMA
