Welcome to New York State

| Letter from Kevin J. Giroux — Festival Chairperson - Tri-Valley January 15, 2010 Dear Music Educators: The Tri-Valley Central School District will be hosting a solo/ensemble festival on May 14 and 15, 2010, at Tri-Valley High School. We will be an All-State site for everything except Jazz—that will be held at Minisink Valley Central School on May 21st and 22nd. In order to schedule your students based upon their need and yours, I urge you to return your registration forms promptly. Scheduling will be on a first come, first served (scheduled) basis. If I am unable to accommodate your students, I will notify you immediately. As a result of schools’ spring vacations, ALL FORM A’s AND FEES ARE TO BE POSTMARKD BY FRIDAY, MARCH 26, 2010. I know that most of you have filled out Form A’s before, but for scheduling sake, please read the attached directions carefully, to alleviate confusion. I have also attached an Excel format of Form A that will sum up your totals if you choose to type your Form A. Tri-Valley Info Letter |

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Joseph Sugar. Joseph Sugar dedicated more than 50 years to the art of teaching and was a tireless advocate for the advancement of music education. Mr. Sugar began his career as a trumpet and string bass player in bands that assisted major stage and recording artists, and recorded for MGM, Fox, and London Records. He was Director of Bands at Indiana University, Matawan High School, Upsala College, Bethpage High School, and Hewlett High School. Mr. Sugar was the retired Director of Music for the Hewlett-Woodmere School District and has served as president of NYSSMA, NYSCAME, MENC Eastern Division and NMEA. Joseph Sugar was also an honorary lifetime member of SCMEA. Mr. Sugar served as professor of education at Long Island University/CW Post Campus, and recently concluded a long term as NYSSMA Government Relations Coalition Chairperson, where Mr. Sugar was a driving force in promoting advocacy for music education in schools. |
